EARTHDOG DIVISION

Non-Sanctioned Division

Our Earthdog classes encompass “colored terriers” (any dark-bodied terrier less than 51% white) and other Earthdog breeds that measure no more than 15 inches tall at the withers. This includes dachshunds and white Earthdog breeds such as West Highland White Terriers. The Earthdog classes are not open to Jack Russell Terriers registered or recorded with the JRTCA. Earthdog owners do not have to be members of the JRTCA to compete in classes. All Earthdog classes are non-sanctioned.

EARTHDOG CHAMPION AND RESERVE PRIZES IN ALL DIVISIONS

In addition to class placement ribbons/prizes, a High Point Earthdog Champion and Reserve will be awarded each day.  High Point is the point total of all designated classes entered each day.


Points are awarded as follows:
1 point for participation if no ribbon is earned
2 points for sixth place
3 points for fifth place
4 points for fourth place
5 points for third place
6 points for second place
7 points for first place
8 points for reserve champion
9 points for champion.

To be eligible for High Point Awards, you MUST enter the following High Point classes in Trial Vault:

Earthdog Conformation

Terriers are judged on a field work standard and terriers must be exhibited on lead.  Earthdog conformation classes are held after the sanctioned JRT conformation classes.  Open to colored terriers (dark-bodied terriers that are less than 51% white), dachshunds and any earthdog breed other than JRTs.
Class 53:  Earthdog Dog Pups - Open to pups 6 up to 12 months.

Earthdog Racing

Non Sanctioned

ALL terriers must be muzzled to race with either a plastic basket or close-ended cloth muzzle. To be eligible in the Championship, terriers must compete in both flats & hurdles. You MUST have your terrier ON DECK and securely muzzled in order to race. If you need help, please ask for it in advance. DO NOT wait until it's time to load into the starting boxes. BE PREPARED. Racing classes will be run in the precise sequence posted in the trial premium.

Go-to-Ground

Non Sanctioned

A timed event that simulates the terrier's natural instinct to hunt. The terrier enters an artificial den/tunnel to demonstrate its working ability. Schooling prior to the competition is not permitted. Any violation of this rule shall result in disqualification from the Go-To-Ground competition at this trial. For all classes: work is defined as baying, digging, concentrated stare, whining or biting at the bars. A break in work is defined as ceasing to work for a period of more than ten seconds. Leaving the quarry is defined as moving back in the tunnel away from quarry and out of the view of the judge. The judge may halt the work, if the judge believes the terrier is injuring itself.

Class 113:  Earthdog Novice GTG
Open to earthdogs, 6 months and older, who have not scored 100% in a novice GTG at previous trials. Entries earning 100% at this trial may, upon payment of the entry fee, enter the Open class at this trial. One minute to reach quarry. May leave earth and re-enter several times until quarry is reached. When quarry is reached, must work quarry continuously for 30 seconds without a break in work and without leaving quarry. May switch from one type of work to another (examples include baying to concentrated stare or digging to baying).
Class 114:  Earthdog Open GTG
Open to earthdogs, 6 months and older, who have scored 100% in a Novice class at previous trials. 30 seconds to reach quarry. May leave earth once and re-enter before quarry is reached. Work quarry continuously for one full minute without a break in work and without leaving quarry. May switch from one type of work to another.
Class 115:  EARTHDOG CHAMPION AND RESERVE

Earthdog Super Earth

Non-sanctioned

30 seconds per 30 feet of tunnel to reach quarry; may leave and re-enter earth; work quarry for one full minute without a break in work and without leaving quarry. May switch from one type of work to another without penalty.
Class 129:  Earthdog Super Earth - Open to earthdogs, 6 months and older.

Class 130:  EARTHDOG CHAMPION AND RESERVE

Earthdog Agility

JRTCA Agility rules.

Class 134:  Agility I Earthdog - Open to earthdogs one year and older.
Agility I Certificate:  Off Lead
Time 1.75+10%. Handlers may remain in this class. No seesaw or tire-jump in this class.
Class 145:  Jumpers/Game Earthdog - Open to earthdogs one year and older
Jumpers/Game:  Off Lead
Consists of 12-17 jumps and/or tunnels with at least one lead change. Scoring is time plus faults, with lowest score getting 1st regardless of number of faults. Five faults for running course on-lead. Five faults for knocked bar, and off-course. Fifteen faults for a missed obstacle. Qualifying score of 200 earns one leg toward a JRTCA Jumpers/Game Certificate. Consists of 12-17 jumps and/or tunnels with at least one lead change. Scoring is time plus faults, with lowest score getting 1st regardless of number of faults. Five faults for running course on-lead. Five faults for knocked bar, and off-course. Fifteen faults for a missed obstacle. Qualifying score of 200 earns one leg toward a JRTCA Jumpers/Game Certificate.
Class 150:  Tunnelers Earthdog - Open to all earthdogs one year and older
Consists of 12 to 17 tunnels and/or chutes with at least one lead change. Scoring is time plus faults with the lowest score awarded first regardless of the number of faults. Five faults for running the course on lead. Five faults for going off course. Fifteen faults for a missed obstacle.

Class 155:  EARTHDOG CHAMPION AND RESERVE

Stable Hunt

This timed event challenges the abilities of the terrier and handler team to locate live rats enclosed in one or more tubes on a straw-bale course.
Class 168:  Earthdog Rookie Stable Hunt - Six months and older.
Competitors have two minutes to find one live rat on a course that will have three live rat tubes, two rat litter tubes, and one clean (empty) tube.
Class 175:  Earthdog Hotshot Stable Hunt - Six months and older.
Competitors will three minutes to find all live rats on a course that will have three live rat tubes, two rat litter tubes, and one clean (empty) tube.

Class 176: 
EARTHDOG CHAMPION AND RESERVE

Brush Hunt

Non Sanctioned

Brush hunt is an above-ground hunting simulation held in a fenced area. One camouflaged rat tube is hidden within the brush area. The challenge is for the terrier to use natural instincts to successfully locate and work the quarry. Terrier must work to find the quarry in the shortest amount of time. The clock starts when the judge is ready and signals you to release your dog at the gate. All four paws must be on the ground before you release your dog. The judge stops the clock when your dog has found the tube. You do not enter with the dog but you can encourage your dog verbally. No hand signals allowed. The dog must locate the tube to have a qualifying time. Maximum time allowed is two minutes.

Earthdog High Points

Non Sanctioned - No Entry Fee

Earthdog HIGH POINT AWARDS are calculated for the day of the trial. Earthdogs in all classes to be scored as follows: Participation = 1 point; 6th Place = 2 points; 5th Place = 3 points; 4th Place = 4 points; 3rd place = 5 points; 2nd place = 6 points; 1st place = 7 points. High Point Participation must be indicated on your entry form by entering Earthdog puppy High Score Award class or Earthdog Adult High Score Award class for each day of the trial.

No entry fee. Based on placements in conformation, flat racing, steeplechase racing, go to ground, super earth, agility, brush hunt, and stable hunt classes on Saturday. Lure Coursing

This is a timed event in which the terrier chases a lure in an enclosed fenced course. Each class entry will include 2 runs. All runs must be run back to back. Enter as many times as you like, however only your best of two runs will be considered for ribbon placement. All other runs considered fun runs.
