All terriers are judged on the JRTCA breed standard. All terriers must be exhibited on lead. Cross-entering is not permitted between the Open Section and the Working Section. JRTCA Working Conformation is open to any JRTCA-registered terrier owned by a JRTCA member which holds a JRTCA Natural Hunting Certificate (NHC). Go-to-Ground

A timed event that simulates the terrier's natural instinct to hunt. The terrier enters an artificial den/tunnel to demonstrate its working ability. Schooling prior to the competition is not permitted. Any violation of this rule shall result in disqualification from the Go-To-Ground competition at this trial. For all classes: work is defined as baying, digging, concentrated stare, whining or biting at the bars. A break in work is defined as ceasing to work for a period of more than ten seconds. Leaving the quarry is defined as moving back in the tunnel away from quarry and out of the view of the judge. The judge may halt the work, if the judge believes the terrier is injuring itself. Copies of JRTCA trial certificate must be submitted with pre-entries or presented to the den steward at the time of judging. Cross entering is not permitted between certificate classes.

Class 310:

Pre-novice puppy

Open to Jack Russell puppies 4 up to 6 months. Entry in Pre-Novice Puppy class does not affect the puppy's eligibility to enter the Novice Class after 6 months of age. Stable Hunt – Non Sanctioned

This timed event challenges the abilities of the terrier and handler team to locate live rats enclosed in one or more tubes on a straw-bale course. (Non-Sanctioned Division) Rookie Stable Hunt - Competitors will have two minutes to find one live rat on a course that will have three live rat tubes, two rat litter tubes, and one clean (empty) tube. Hot Shot Stable Hunt - Competitors will have three minutes to find all (three) live rats on a course that will have three live rat tubes, two rat litter tubes, and one clean (empty) tube.

Rookie Stable Hunt

Competitors will have two minutes to find one live rat tube on a course that will also have two tubes filled with rat litter and two clean (empty) tubes.

Brush Hunt – Non Sanctioned

Brush hunt is an above-ground hunting simulation held in a fenced area. One camouflaged rat tube is hidden within the brush area. The challenge is for the terrier to use natural instincts to successfully locate and work the quarry. Terrier must work to find the quarry in the shortest amount of time. The clock starts when the judge is ready and signals you to release your dog at the gate. All four paws must be on the ground before you release your dog. The judge stops the clock when your dog has found the tube. You do not enter with the dog but you can encourage your dog verbally. No hand signals allowed. The dog must locate the tube to have a qualifying time. No cross-entering between classes. Maximum time allowed is two minutes. (Non-Sanctioned Division)

Obedience

Class 394:

Pre-Novice

Open to any adult terrier. Ten maximum in each group, all commands on-leash. To be judged individually; heel, heel figure 8, stand for exam, recall. Honor sit or down. No height restriction.

Class 395:

Novice

Open to any adult terrier. To be judged individually; heel on-leash, Off Lead figure , stand for exam, recall off-leash. Honor sit or down. No height restrictions.

Class 396:

Open

Open to any adult terrier. To be judged individually; heel free, figure 8, drop on recall, retrieve on flat, retrieve over high jump, and broad jump. "OPTIONAL"

Class 397:

Obedience High Point & High Point Reserve

To be awarded to the highest combination of scores in classes Pre-Novice B, Novice Obedience or Open Obedience classes. Ties shall be broken by each team again performing the Off-Leash Heeling Pattern exercise.

Rally-Obedience

Class 398:

Companion Rally

Open to any adult terrier. Performed on-lead. May be same course as Rally I. This class is for the companion terrier who has little or no formal Obedience training. A true beginner class. May not cross-enter Rally I or Rally II.

Class 399:

Rally I

Open to any adult terrier. Performed on-lead. Numbered course of 1-15 signs. Performed on loose lead at a normal walking pace. Must have some knowledge of Obedience. May cross-enter into Rally II.

Class 400:

Rally II

Open to any adult terrier. Performed off-lead. Numbered course of 15-18 signs. Course the same as Rally I with different or added exercises of more difficulty. May cross-enter into Rally I.

Class 401:

Rally-O High Point & High Point Reserve

To be awarded to the highest combination of scores from Rally I & II. Most advanced class breaking the tie.
